60年代後半はフラワームーヴメント、ヒッピームーヴメントなど、愛と自由と平和を謳歌する若者達の為のロックフェスティヴァルが開かれました。何万人もの人が同じ場所に集まり、同じ音楽と空間を共有する。そこには多くのミュージシャン達が次々に現れて、サマーオブラブの祭りとなりました。その先駆けとなったのがこのモンタレーポップフェスティヴァルです。

CDの方にはロック系の音源が多くなっていますが、ジャズやフォーク、民族音楽など多彩なミュージシャンを集めた祭典となっています。そしてこのフェスティヴァルに参加した事によって、知名度を上げたのが、後の時代をリードするジミヘンとジャニスジョップリンとオーティスレディングです。新しい時代を担うミュージシャンが多数参加している事で、歴史的なイヴェントとなっています。

どのミュージシャンも素晴らしい演奏を残していますが、最高のパフォーマンスを披露しているのはThe Whoです。全てのフェスティヴァルでThe Whoは最高のステージを披露しています。まだレッドツェッペリンが登場する前の最高峰のバンドとして君臨しています。滅茶苦茶カッコいいです。オーティスのステージも熱いです。3日間行われたステージには多彩なミュージシャンが参加しています。ですからアーティスト別に編集された作品も多数有ります。ロックが一番幸福だった頃の軌跡です。
